We are currently sourcing for a General Manager with international mining experience to join a trusted South African mining services partner for their Mining Department Africa. The ideal candidates will have 15 to 20 years’ experience in mining services management in Africa with exceptional experience in financial management, risk management, contract management, customer relations management, SHEQ management and asset management to develop a divisional leadership team that is innovative, visionary, ESG-focused, and people-orientated.

Primary Purpose: This exciting opportunity exists to ensure the achievement of business objectives through contract execution and growth. The incumbent would ensure that the company’s purpose is distilled throughout our operations in Africa.

Job description / core competencies:
Divisional business management.
Sustainable business management.
Country risk analysis, mitigations, and management.
Team management and development.
Business planning and growth aligned with company strategy for Africa Leadership.
Joint accountability with other divisional heads (GM’s) for performance and sustainability.
Leading and developing divisional management and staff to be effective.
Develop a divisional leadership team that is innovative, visionary, ESG focused, and people orientated.
Financial management.
Divisional financial performance management.
Country financial performance management.
Support and management of country financial audits.
Country tax and financial reporting compliance.
Risk management.
Align with company’s enterprise risk management framework.
Evaluate country/client/project risks and opportunities.
Evaluate divisional, operational, governance, safety, environmental and social risks, and opportunities.
Contract management.
Tendering (incl. risk matrix, financial model, margins, returns, etc.) and meeting approval requirements.
Manage contracts to ensure business targets are met (risk mitigation, production, cost, quality, ESG, SHEQ, availability, utilisation, margins and returns).
Commercial management of contracts (SOW, change management, escalation, closure, etc).
Customer relations management.
Regular contact with clients and ensure a 100% customer satisfaction survey rate as well as positive feedback.
Assist operational managers in dealing with unresolved issues.
Ensure SLAs are implemented, adhered to, and regular meetings take place.
SHEQ Management. Provide SHEQ standards and procedures aligned with client SHE programs and company group requirements.
Assess SHEQ performance of site management through formal site audits.
Suggest continuous improvements, corrective action and monitor performance.
Growth Establish and maintain business networks.
Explore opportunities for new business.
Evaluate country/project/client risks for threats and opportunities.
Managing the Team.
Review/develop and continuously improve divisional structure, organograms, role profiles, job descriptions and KPI’s.
Select and appoint competent and passionate people aligned with Company’s Values Asset Management.
Understand Asset Management and its importance and impact on financial performance and business sustainability.
Divisional Capital requirements, funding, returns, budgeting, and monitoring.
Divisional Asset efficiency (availability & utilization) monitoring.

Candidate Requirements
Qualifications
BSc/BEng Degree (Post Graduate Degree will be advantageous).
Management/Business/Commercial related qualification MBA or similar management qualification.
Experience
A minimum of 15 - 20 years applicable experience will be required.
