Overview:
A Project Controls Specialist plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing the planning, scheduling, cost estimation, and monitoring of projects within an organization. This role ensures that projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet the specified quality standards. The Project Controls Specialist collaborates with project managers, stakeholders, and team members to establish and maintain effective project control processes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. **Project Planning:**
- Collaborate with project managers to develop detailed project plans, outlining tasks, milestones, and timelines.
- Utilize project management tools and software to create comprehensive schedules that consider all project aspects.
2. **Cost Estimation:**
- Develop accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for projects, considering materials, labor, equipment, and other relevant factors.
- Monitor and update cost estimates throughout the project life cycle to ensure alignment with the budget.
3. **Scheduling:**
- Create and maintain project schedules, ensuring that tasks are sequenced logically and deadlines are met.
- Identify critical path activities and potential bottlenecks, providing recommendations for adjustments when necessary.
4. **Risk Management:**
- Identify potential risks and uncertainties that could impact project timelines or budgets.
- Collaborate with project teams to develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
5. **Performance Monitoring and Reporting:**
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for projects and regularly monitor and report on progress.
- Generate and distribute project status reports to stakeholders, highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommended actions.
- Review contractor’s programs and interrogate “fit for purpose” from a constructability perspective as well as ensuring scope of work is fully considered, resourced and practically achievable.
- Must be able to do analysis of contractors submitted programs.
6. **Change Management:**
- Evaluate and assess the impact of changes to project scope, schedule, or budget.
- Work with project teams to implement change orders and ensure proper documentation.
7. **Resource Allocation:**
- Collaborate with project managers to allocate resources effectively, ensuring optimal utilization of manpower, equipment, and materials.
8. **Communication:**
- Facilitate effective communication between project teams, stakeholders, and management.
- Conduct regular meetings to discuss project status, challenges, and potential solutions.
9. **Documentation:**
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including schedules, budgets, and reports.
- Ensure compliance with organizational standards and procedures.
10. **Continuous Improvement:**
- Evaluate project control processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Implement best practices and lessons learned from previous projects.
Candidate Requirements
Candidates who meet the following criteria will be considered:
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in engineering.
- Proven experience in project controls or a related role.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools, must be a super user of MS Projects.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in project controls.
- At least 5 Years experience in capital projects
