The Division for Institutional Research & Planning (IRP) is
responsible for: higher education environmental scanning and
rendering advice to the University management; institutional
research projects and the generation of business intelligence;
academic planning; generating and providing institutional
information and publication of information reports; HEMIS
reporting; quality assurance of academic departments, support
services and academic programmes; approval of research surveys
amongst staff and students; and liaising with institutions outside
the University, e.g. the Council on Higher Education and the
Department of Higher Education & Training .
Duties:
- Supporting the Director: Institutional Research in the
execution of institutional research projects and surveys;
- co-operating in the processing of institutional information
requests;
- updating the annual Stellenbosch University Fact Books;
- co-operating in the updating of the University's annual
Strategic Management Indicators (SMIs);
- supporting the Director: Institutional Research in organising
workshops, taking minutes and other tasks as required;
- driving specific projects as agreed upon from time to
time.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree;
- a minimum of three years' experience at a higher education
institution;
- excellent interpretative, communicative and administrative
skills;
- sound oral and written communication and language skills in
Afrikaans as well as in English;
- excellent computer skills in Microsoft Excel and Word;
- proficiency in the use of electronic information systems;
- good numerical skills;
- a focus on service delivery;
- attention to detail and accuracy.
Recommendations:
- Master's degree;
- experience in institutional research at a higher education
institution;
- experience as a member of the academic staff at a higher
education institution;
- research experience and/or experience in supporting research
projects, preferably quantitative research;
- knowledge of higher education policy.
Commencement of duties: 1 April 2012 or as soon
as possible thereafter
