DEGREE OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Weekly supervision from Project Managers on-site.
PLANNING NECESSARY IN THE JOB:
Upfront planning before start-up of project. Main planning every
two weeks and sub-planning on a daily basis.
DEADLINES IN THE JOB:
Handover dates. Practical Completion Date and Final Completion
Date. Usually on a two weekly basis.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
Manage construction on site, plan building sequencing and liaise
with Sub-Contractors.
DETAIL OF KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Key Performance Area: 1. Managing the Building
Site
Key Activities (How?)
- Ensures that short, medium and long-term programs are carried
out
- Determines the correct site layout
- Complies with the construction programme and bar chart
- Compiles resource chart with detailed activity programme
- Compiles plant, material and labour schedule from the bar chart
and requisition plant, labour and materials.
Key Performance Area: 2. Performing an
Administrative Function
Key Activities (How?)
- Adheres to company administration policies
- Liaises and corresponds with professional team and
Sub-Contractors
- Completes requisitions for materials or resources
- Monitors requisitions until items are delivered
- Files documentation in accordance with procedure
- Manages the administration relating to plant control
- Maintains site diary
- Updates the site instruction book
- Administers day works, site instructions and variation
orders
- Manages the administration of time cards and payment of
wages

- Monitors costs versus allowables
- Implement corrective actions if negative
- Applies effective work methods to beat allowables
- Compiles progress report
- Ensures that wastage is kept to the minimum

- Interprets construction drawings
- Adheres to the sequence of operation
- Provides efficient methods to do the work
- Determines effective construction activity, based on knowledge
of interaction between men, materials, machines and money
- Liaises, negotiates and consults with professional team and
client regarding details, timeframes, resources and budget
- Contracts a programme with the team in order to meet
deadlines
- Measures Sub-Contractor requirements against programme
- Ensures that Sub-Contractors have enough resources to meet the
programme requirements
- Ensures that set targets are met
- Ensures that timeframes and timelines of work programmes are
adhered to
- Issues the testing of construction materials
- Ensures that maintenance work on existing buildings is carried
out
- Chairs Site Management meeting and Sub-Contractors meeting
Key Performance Area: 5. Performing
Quality Control on Site
Key Activities (How?)
- Understands the contract documentation and specifications
- Performs quality checks on NMC and Co-Contractors
- Completes tasks correctly and to specification on the first
attempt
- Carries out quality control checks on site e.g. walk-about
prior to Project Manager site-check
- Measures quality of completed building by comparing it to the
specifications and requirements initially communicated by Project
Managers
- Obtains information regarding grading or percentage obtained on
Project Managers' site-checks

Health and Safety on Site
Key Activities (How?)
- Keeps workplace neat and tidy at all times
- Ensures that personal protective equipment is utilised and
utilised correctly
- Adheres to safe working practices at all times so as not to
endanger self and fellow workers
- Ensures that safety meetings are conducted regularly
- Ensures safety documents are kept up-to-date
- Complies with company and legal requirements regarding the
environment and pollution
- Ensures compliance of staff to the requirements of the
Occupational Health and Safety Act
