CHIEF DIRECTORATE: EDUCATION HUMAN RESOURCES AND DEVELOPMENT
DIRECTORATE: CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL TEACHER DEVELOPMENT


DEPUTY DIRECTOR (Ref. 11431/04)


Salary: All-inclusive salary package of R434,505 per annum

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must be in possession of a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualifi cation, supplemented by at least eight (8) years relevant experience in the Education field
  • Extensive knowledge of and insight into education policies, programmes for the provision of quality continuing Professional Teacher Development
  • Research skills and experience in policy making, implementation and evaluation
  • Good communication skills and interpersonal relations with above-average computer skills and knowledge of Ms Offi ce software (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access and PowerPoint)
  • Managerial experience, project development and management as well as the management of the budget in line with strategic plans and the Public Finance Management Act, 1999 (Act 1 of 1999) (PFMA) will be an advantage
  • A valid driver’s licence.


DUTIES:

  • Strategically manage Departmental activities on the professional development of educators in line with the Action Plan to 2014 and the Integrated Strategic Planning Framework for Teacher Education and Development
  • Plan, co-ordinate, support and monitor teacher development activities for the implementation of CAPS, use of ANA results, ECD and ICT
  • Advise and co-ordinate the development of courses for teachers to meet specific and contextual needs emanating from Grade 12 and ANA results
  • Work with SACE on the development and implementation of the CPTD Management System
  • Analyse existing educator development programmes and qualifications through working with teacher education providers
  • Liaise with provincial Departments and render capacity building where necessary
  • Supervise, co-ordinate and guide the development of systems for identifying and addressing teacher development needs
  • Co-ordinate and handle official correspondence, submissions and after-hour and weekend work
  • Support the Director, including deputising for the Director where necessary.

NOTE: Short-listed candidates will be required to undergo a competency assessment.
