Job Description:
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: NATION-BUILDING AND CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION
(Ref. 11431/03)
Salary: R221,058 per annum
REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicants must be in possession of a recognised Bachelor’s
degree or an equivalent qualification with three (3) years relevant
experience, supplemented by substantial knowledge of how economic,
socio-cultural and civic attitudes and practices promote effective
citizenship in democratic societies
- A postgraduate degree in Social Science and/or Development
Studies will be an advantage, as will knowledge of education
legislation and national policies
- Experience in working in the human rights, citizenship/civic
education and/or social justice programmes as well as extensive
knowledge of and insight into local and global debates on emerging
democracies, identity formations and social movements will be an
added advantage
- The ideal candidate will have an understanding of national,
regional and international protocols and instruments on human
rights
- Strong communication (verbal and written) skills are
essential.
DUTIES:
- Provide support to the activities related to social cohesion
work within the basic education system
- Assist in providing related advocacy and mainstreaming support
services to provinces, districts, schools and other relevant
stakeholders
- Render professional support in related areas where necessary,
including drafting documentation
- Conduct research and provide advice on relevant Departmental
policies, projects and programmes
- Assist in speech-writing and putting together briefi ngs where
requested
- Perform any other tasks as required by the Director: Social
Cohesion and Equity in Education.
NOTE: Short-listed candidates will be required to undergo a
competency assessment.
