Job Description:

BRANCH: SOCIAL MOBILISATION AND SUPPORT SERVICES
CHIEF DIRECTORATE: CARE AND SUPPORT IN SCHOOLS
DIRECTORATE: SOCIAL COHESION IN EDUCATION
DEPUTY DIRECTOR (Ref. 11431/01)
Salary: All-inclusive salary package of R434,505 per annum
REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicants must be in possession of a recognised Bachelor’s
degree or an equivalent qualifi cation, supplemented by at least
four (4) years relevant experience
- A post-graduate degree in Social Sciences and/or Development
Studies will be an advantage
- Strong knowledge of and experience in research and monitoring
and evaluation is critical
- Experience in working in the development and/or education fi
elds, as well as extensive knowledge of and insight into local and
global debates on equity, social cohesion, socio-economic justice
and human rights is essential
- The ideal candidate will have an understanding of national,
regional and international protocols and instruments related to
human rights and democratic nations
- Strong communication (verbal and written) skills are
essential.
DUTIES:
- Provide technical support to the attainment of the Department’s
national, provincial and local social cohesion and equity
priorities
- Co-ordinate the development, implementation, monitoring, and
evaluation of the social cohesion programmes and strategies within
the Basic Education sector
- Analyse programmes and position papers, as well as research
papers on social cohesion and equity in education
- Develop, implement and compile national progress reports on the
social cohesion barometer in education
- Establish and maintain sustainable partnerships with State
Departments and statutory bodies
- Research institutions and civil society organisations on social
cohesion and education matters
- Conduct research and advise on the implications for social
cohesion in all Departmental policies, projects and programmes
- Perform other tasks as required by the Director: Social
Cohesion and Equity in Education
- Strategise for the eradication of gender-based violence in
public schools
- Monitor and evaluate strategies for dealing with learner
pregnancy in public schools.
